Kings Canyon - the middle of nowhere!

Happy birthday Brendan!

A few early birds were up and packed to do the lower canyon walk this morning, then we hit the road.  Birthday boy Brendan was the brunt of the joke for the day - after having to replace his UHF with the whizz bang one in Alice Springs, everyone else pretended they couldn't hear his radio for about an hour.

We lunched at Tyler's Pass, overlooking Gosse's Bluff. A 360 view of the landscape.

A t-shirt tree along the way.

An aerial shot of the road through the dirty windscreen.

And now the dirt... and the corrugations... dirt, some more corrugations, some dips, etc, etc, etc.
The landscape still keeps changing though and the ranges are beautiful.

The fuel stop at Papunya. The general store was very well stocked, but the town was quiet as the sports were on at Kintore, further down the track. They were hoping to add to their trophy collection I think, but the local cop, a kiwi, said the home town always win anyway.  They just play until they do!

We found a nice, peaceful place to set up camp for the night. Geoff cooked a very nice birthday cake for Brendan in the camp oven.
